If Ann Arbor, a city known more for clouds than sunshine, can become a Solar America City, then any city in the United States can. By becoming a Solar America City, Ann Arbor demonstrates that solar energy can provide a positive contribution to its community through job creation and by supplying clean, renewable energy to its citizens. Ann Arbor’s goals for this partnership are:- Engage with community partners and resources to remove market barriers to solar energy
- Work to increase consumer awareness and demand for solar energy
- Help solar energy manufacturers and contractors to succeed.

Recently retired City Energy Coordinator David Konkle, Ann Arbor Mayor John Hieftje, U.S. Department of Energy Project Officer Steve Palmeri, and Dave Feldbauer of RCI Roofing and Sheet Metal Inc. hold a roof panel featuring a solar collector that will be installed at the Ann Arbor Farmers' Market.

The farmers’ market in Ann Arbor is the site of a new 10kW photovoltaic (solar electric) system to be installed in spring 2008.
