The City of Madison calls its Solar America Cities project “MadiSUN.” The city will coordinate and galvanize substantial local and state resources with a motivated population to showcase how a U.S. midwest city can dramatically increase the use of solar energy. The City of Madison adopted the objective of “making Madison a green capital city, a national leader in energy efficiency and renewable energy that also supports the city’s economic vitality.”

    • Working to simplify the decision-making process for building owners
    • Reducing the length of time required for installations to be completed.
  • Review and modify the city’s procedures and policies for solar permitting and installation to make them more supportive of solar systems.
  • Assist potential solar system owners with the work involved in decision making, contracting, and permitting.
  • Market solar installations to residents, businesses, and builders.
  • Educate solar installers regarding permitting procedures and structural requirements.
